The Mathematics Major provides students with the fundamental background needed to engage with the broad discipline that is Mathematics and grants them an opportunity to broaden this background or specialize in a specific field with our five major concentrations: general mathematics, graduate preparatory, applied mathematics, teaching of mathematics, and data optimization. Students may also apply for the Mathematics & Computer Science major, a blended degree with the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science. Students outside of the major may choose to pursue a Minor in Mathematics or a Teacher Education Minor in Mathematics.
Students interested in teaching mathematics at the middle and high school level may complete a math major and the secondary education minor. Alternatively, they may complete a teaching program in another area and our minor in the teaching of mathematics, grades 6-8 or grades 9-12. The major and minor in statistics are available through the Department of Statistics.
