The University of Illinois requires the ALEKS PPL Mathematics Placement Exam to assess a student's prerequisite knowledge for course placement. Backed by decades of research, ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL) is the premier adaptive learning and assessment platform used by millions of students around the world. ALEKS PPL uses adaptive, open-response questioning to rapidly and accurately assess each student on a wide range of course material in 30 questions or less. Students are correctly placed and given the opportunity to improve their placement with targeted learning with up to 6-months of access to the Prep and Learning Module. A seamless transition from assessment to learning empowers students and builds learning momentum.
The mathematical background requirements will be the same as the previous version of ALEKS, however ALEKS PPL has a different placement scale. Thus for placement beginning Spring 2016, courses will have the following ALEKS PPL score requirements:
|Math 112||40% Required|
|Math 115 / Math 234||65% Required|
|Math 220 / Math 221||80% Required|
|Math 103, 112, 117, 119, 181||50% Recommended|
|Math 124, 125||65% Recommended|
All incoming first-year students must complete the ALEKS PPL exam available to all incoming students free of charge.
Every student enrolled in Math 112, 115, 220, 221, or 234 is required to obtain the minimum required ALEKS PPL placement score (listed above).
