Rotations and the Algebra of Space

Algebra and geometry are two sides of the same coin. Given an object moving in space, how can we represent its motion numerically? In this course, we will build up a "geometric algebra" of numbers, vectors, bivectors, and trivectors in order to study rotations in three dimensions. We'll use our system to explain other methods for representing rotations, such as the complex numbers and quaternions, and gain deep insights into the relationship between numbers and space.

From Snowflakes to Seashells: Exploring Fractals

Can a region have finite area and infinite perimeter? Is there a dimension between one and two? Fractals appear all around us in nature and art, and raise many interesting questions that challenge our intuition. We will explore these questions and more, as we learn about fractals and chaos theory in this course.

Registration Information

Camp fees

The cost to attend SIM Camp is $200 per camper. This fee is not due until a camper has been admitted into the camp.

We offer some full and partial scholarships to students and families for whom the camp fee constitutes a financial hardship. If you wish to be considered for a SIM Camp scholarship, please indicate so in the appropriate section of the application form

How to register

SIM Camp admits students into camp based on interest and seat availability. To be considered camp, students must first apply to indicate their current academic level and interests.

Students over the age of 13 may apply to SIM Camp by filling out the camper application form. Students under the age of 13 must have parental consent to submit the form. The parental consent form is accessible from the camper application form.
