April Hoffmeister, senior lecturer in mathematics, has been recognized once again for her excellence in teaching. As this year’s Illinois Council of Teachers in Mathematics awards ceremony, held October 29, Hoffmeister was awarded the Excellence in Post-Secondary Mathematics Teaching Award.

According to ICTM’s website, the Excellence in Post-Secondary Mathematics Teaching Award honors one outstanding post-secondary school mathematics teacher each year. Hoffmeister was presented the award for 2022, along with a short video recorded by her peers and colleagues congratulating her on the achievement.

“This award is very meaningful to me and the recognition I have received that came with it has been overwhelming,” says Hoffmeister. “I have worked with thousands of students over the years and am grateful for all I continue to learn from them. I have also been blessed with supportive colleagues who share my love of teaching mathematics.”

This award is among many teaching awards that Hoffmeister has received recently. In 2021, she was also the recipient of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching by Instructional Staff, the LAS Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching for Instructional Staff, and the Unsung Hero award, given by the Student Alumni Ambassadors at UIUC.
